Where’s Coco?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Somewhere in the middle of this photo, you’ll see two sweet little doggie eyes, peering out from the flotsam and jetsam of our just out of the dryer jeans & socks. It’s one of her favorite things; in fact (dare I say it?) there is a Pavlovian reaction from our sweet girl whenever she hears the dryer door slam shut (and she knows the difference between the washer door shutting & the dryer door shutting). Whenever she hears that alluring pop, she’s immediately in the moment (doesn’t matter if she was eating or eviscerating her favorite toy), and ready to plop into the mass of HEAT. She’s probably wondering how she found herself in northern Michigan when she so obviously prefers the tropics.

A Good Movie: Junebug

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

In keeping with my 2008 New Year’s resolution to only like movies that start with the letters, ‘JUN’ (see Juno)….here’s Junebug. A sweet, independent film about families and the blending of families by marriage. A sophisticated art gallery owner (Madeleine) from Chicago falls in love with a charming man from North Carolina (George) and when she needs to visit North Carolina to sign an artist for her gallery, she and her new husband spend a few days with his working class family. His mother is disapproving & repressed, her other son resentful & uncommunicative, her pregnant daughter-in-law starstruck by the glamorous new wife, and his father mostly silent, although he tends to deliver the most meaningful & poignant lines in the movie (When defending his wife’s taciturn exterior to Madeleine, he says, ‘She’s not like that inside. She hides her real self. Just like everybody else.’) It’s sweet, it’s well-acted, it’s poignant, and it’s well worth seeing. And, the name of movie comes from…?? Well, you’ll just have to watch it and see.

You Always Had the Power (really!)

I’ve always said that the Wizard of Oz has more life lessons than the best-selling self help book out there and this is one of my favorites. If you need a little confidence boost, play the video — and if you need a constant reminder, hang the sign pictured above.

Valentine’s Day is on February 14th this year!

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Yes, I know — it was a surprise to us, too, because it’s like February 4th right now. How could we possibly know that the 14th would come so early this year? You have plenty of time, though, if you get on it and when you shop with us, you get to save that extra step of wrapping the gift because we’ll do it for you, for nothing. We promise to wrap it as carefully as you would and (don’t take this the wrong way) it might even look a little better than your wrapping job. Not that there’s anything wrong with your wrapping job, of course. So, if you’re shopping for your sweetie or your best friend, check out our array of amusing, indulging, and inspiring valentines.

My Favorite Movie of 2008….So far….

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

Juno is a funny, poignant, and very real movie about a smart-alecky-wise-beyond-her years 16 year old named Juno who finds out she is pregnant after her first love-making session with track running orange Tic-Tac eating Bleeker. She decides to give the baby up for adoption and finds the ‘perfect’ couple in Vanessa & Mark Loring. The dialogue is snappy, the story is well-acted, and the end result is one of those movies that you tell people about. But, don’t take my word for it. Check out the trailers.

R.I.P. Green Santa Dog (12/20/07 - 12/29/07)

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

So long, sweet green santa dog. Your life was short and full of ups and downs (mainly downs), but you probably never dreamed that you would come to live in a house with a vicious 5 pound yorkie poo. You fought valiantly, but, in the end, your dreams were flattened (and so was your body after having all of the life force sucked out of you by aforementioned yorkie poo).

The Mortal Wound

Coco went for the green santa dog version of the jugular: that seam behind your left ear. Once that little tear began, I’m afraid it was all over….just a matter of time before you became

A Two Dimensional Version of Your Previous 3D Self

Goodbye green santa dog. In your next life may you be the toy of a baby Maltese.

It’s a Coco Christmas!

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

So, what do you think? Did we go over the top at Christmas with Coco?

Well, I guess that depends on what you define as over the top. If it includes purchasing her a bed warmer (see electric cord at right of bed) that turns on when she lays on her bed, then I’d have to say yes. If it includes buying her a red grinning Santa dog, then yes. If it includes accepting a Christmas package from the mail carrier to be delivered to Miss Coco, then yes, yes, yes. Coco had the Christmas of her life this year - tidbits of filet on Christmas Day, plenty of bracing snowy walks, and a thousand romps with her favorite ball (see it resting to the left of the photo. She loves to have all of her toys near her for easy access). She even found time to buy my husband a gift card to his favorite coffee shop!
