Shop Girl Diary: September 23, 2013

It’s a beautiful day today, following on the heels of three gray days filled with intermittent spitting rain.  The good weather was supposed to be here yesterday, but it came today instead.  A high of 60 degrees and it just feels like one of those days where everybody is happy to be alive and up north.  I am working a half day so I have lots of things to get done before Mary gets here.

First up is gathering merchandise for web orders.  We sent out the announcement about the web store closing on Friday and the response has been amazing.  So many wonderful comments and well-wishes from customers we have grown to love.  This pile of chick stuff will be sent out to today to Colorado, Massachusetts, California, and Michigan.

So, there is this wall that has been bugging me lately.  It’s a very popular wall because things are purchased from it all the time, which also means that it’s in a constant state of being partially empty.  I have been neglecting it for a week or two and now it looks really bad, so I decided to make it better.  Now, it’s filled with all kinds of colorful and happy phrases and art.  It looks better, right?

I have to take a few minutes to look at the new sock display that Mary put together last week.  I love these socks so much!  (No, I don’t want to marry them.)  They are so colorful and cute and they have a sassy little edge, which makes them very Happy Woman-ish.  My favorite is the pair that says “Kick this sunshiny day in its ass.”  Who wouldn’t want to be wearing that message on their feet?

For my break today,  I know that I have a lot of great goodies waiting for me in the fridge.  Have you tried Hint water?  It is my new favorite drink. (And no, they aren’t paying me to say it.  I’m pretty sure that don’t even know I exist.)  No calories, no sugar or sugar substitute, just plain old water with a “hint” of flavor.  (Hmmm…could that be the source of the name?)  The flavors are fabulous.  Today, I am having grapefruit and mango, yesterday lavender and mint.  I don’t know about you, but I look forward to treats when I’m working.  Plus, we got a new fridge last week because the other one was freezing everything.  I am pretty much the only one who is excited about this, but as I always say, “it’s the little things.”

My final project today is to beef up the back wall.  This is the wall that customers see when they are checking out, so we try to make it as tantalizing as possible.  I added the sign and the “Beautiful” wall board; put a scarf on the striped tunic, and added a necklace to the rust colored modal top.  I like it.  Hope you do too!

Mary is here, so it is time for me to go to the bank and finish up some paperwork at home!  Thanks for reading!
