HW Past, Present and Future

PAST: As soon as the store closed at the end of 2022, we started to clean and paint. I always like to get everything cleared out and really go to town with the cleaning. It’s not my favorite thing, but ewwww….things get dirty over the course of a season. We moved a couple of props around to make the flow better too. I’m always watching to see how people interact with the displays during each year and no matter how much I think it’s perfect, there’s always something to make better for next year. Nancy put up the winter window which has a cool boho 70s vibe.

PRESENT: Fabulous new things are arriving daily and after they’re checked in and put into inventory, we truck allllll the boxes out to the store. Not in a literal truck, just a Subaru. I’ve checked in with former employees to see if they are coming back (Sue - yes!! Kerry - yes!!) and have been talking to a former summer employee (Hannah - yes!!) about an internship this summer - it’s looking very promising! Sue and I have started pricing and putting together displays and Nancy is busy figuring out the first spring window. She is using a gorgeous woven sun that she made last year as a jumping off point. I’m adding a lot of things (but not ALLLL the things - you need some surprises) to the website right now. Also, believe it or not, I’ve been shopping and ordering fall clothing. On a personal note, we’re going to be traveling south from February 21st to March 21st, so the packing has commenced. Lucy is going too.

FUTURE: We are very much looking forward to our 23rd anniversary on April 19th and starting our 24th season in business. We’ll be opening this year on April 8th (rain, snow, shine) and I have planned a very cute gift bag - you are going to love it, I promise. Thank you for following along with us and for your social media follows and likes and your visits to the shop in Suttons Bay. We love you and thank you for being our customer friends!
